Biography

Hello All. My name is Dilane. I decided I wanted to be a writer when I was in the seventh grade; I had an amazing English teacher that showed me the beauty and power of words. I've been in love with them ever since.

I chose to attend Howard University for college because in my mind it had the best communications program of all the Nation's HBCUs. I now hold a Bachelor of Arts in print/online journalism with a  political science minor.
Through my undergraduate classes and work experiences, I have acquired extensive skills in writing, editing, social media, and blogging. In addition to writing, I also have photography skills and my own camera. I am also familiar with photo and video editing software, including Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. I am also familiar with InDesign and of course, the entire Microsoft Office software suite.


I am now a second year graduate student at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. I am acquiring a Master of Arts in new media studies. My interests include privacy in the digital age, digital marketing, content management, and social media strategy.

Through my graduate studies, I have learned several skills concerning the practical applications of new media technology. In a past course, I focused on photography, photo editing, and use of photos and text together. It was for this class that I learned to use Exposure. Additionally, another course required the use and mastery of WordPress. I had to create and maintain a blog throughout the class and prove my ability to create various types of content.
